Pix Cafe Table by Peter Schaffner: It’s a cinch to handle

11th December 2007

It’s happened many times: order something off the Internet or on the Home TV Shopping network and when the package gets to you, you have a heck of a time assembling the product even though it comes with complete assembly instructions, and sometimes an instructional video to boot. Self-assembly can be fun – when you’ve ordered something like a toy or a recreational product. When it comes to furniture though, the easier it is to assemble, the better – whether we’re talking about home cabinets or contemporary bistro chairs and tables.

pixtable.jpgBar, café, bistro and restaurant owners will appreciate something like the Pix Café Table. Designed by Peter Schaffner, it’s available exclusively at Design Within Reach. Schaffner wanted to create something that was easy to assemble, versatile, timeless, and space-efficient. This table is the result of his planning, and it looks like it met all his objectives.

Assembling the table is easy since it has only three components: the plate (which is also the table top) and two x-shaped parts that are the base. Stability is ensured with the four-footed base. Disassembly is also easy, and storing it is no problem. It’s made of powder-coated galvanized metal and tubular steel. It measures 28 inches high, with a diameter of 31.5 inches. It is suitable for either indoor or outdoor use since it is resistant to changing weather conditions and corrosion. It is available in green, red, and anthracite (which is priced higher than the other two colors).

The Pix Café Table may look simple and it may be easy to assemble, but Schaffner didn’t cut any corners designing it. In fact, he had to use specialized equipment to achieve the standard of quality and workmanship that he wanted. That kind of quality is something that both customers and establishment owners appreciate very much.
