Stylish aluminum furniture in the form of Botanist cocktail tables

25th December 2007

botanist_cocktail_table.jpgBotanists make me think of intrepid creatures to venture out into uncharted woods and jungles to find and document yet undiscovered species of plant life – just because it’s what they want to do; they aren’t in it for the money. I don’t think anybody has ever made millions of dollars from finding a new species of a bush or tree, have they? But the plants they find can be not only pretty, but have life-changing implications too. For instance, a number of them have been discovered to have compounds that can treat various diseases.

The Botanist cocktail table designed by Dario Antonioni and Brandon Lynne is a great tribute to botany and botanists worldwide. It looks so attractive with its floral motif, and it is eminently functional and practical too. Paired with suitable contract café chairs, these tables would look so charming in any restaurant, bar or café. They aren’t flashy-looking, only having subtle designs and vivid colors. They are great examples of understated elegance.

Lunar table by Manolo Bassi: It isn’t science fiction

19th December 2007

manolo_bossi_lunar_table.jpgI must admit that though I like science fiction books and movies, I haven’t read or seen too much of them. I was never a part of the huge following of films and TV shows like Star Trek, though I did very much enjoy the Star Wars movies. But for the life of me I can’t see the relationship between the Lunar Dining Table and sci-fi films.

Designed by Manolo Bossi and manufactured by spHaus, it is said that the base of the table is reminiscent of lunar landscapes seen in old science fiction movies. Maybe aficionados of such movies and literature will be able to see the resemblance, but I sure don’t. However, there is no denying that it looks to be a very attractive table indeed, lunar landscapes or not. It is an indoor table that would look good as contract bar furniture because of its modern, clean appearance.

Modern Spanish furniture: Domino Square Table by Joan Casas i Ortinéz

5th December 2007

dominotable.jpgBack in 2005 there was a movie called Domino, which was based on the story of Domino Harvey. She was a fashion model who became a bounty hunter and who ended up dying of a drug overdose. That film made quite an impact on many people. The Domino Square Table, on the other hand, might not be quite as dramatic, but it nevertheless makes its mark in the design world.

The table’s simple, clean, and modern design makes it suitable for many places and indeed it is found in restaurants, fitness centers, country clubs, and cruise ships the world over. It is part of the Lucca collection designed by a Spaniard named Joan Casas i Ortinéz for Indecasa in Barcelona, where he is head of the design creative team. I like that company’s name, Indecasa. It kinds of sounds like “in the casa,” which means in the house. But that’s just me being fanciful. Sure, the furniture that Casas designs can be used at home, but as mentioned earlier they are also popular in commercial settings. His counter stools, for instance, would be great as commercial bistro chairs.

Round cafe table by Jorge Pensi

1st December 2007

pensitable.jpgIt must be quite satisfying and flattering to realize that something you’ve created has become a classic in just a short span of time, relatively speaking. Just like Jorge Pensi’s round café table. It was only in 1988 that Pensi created this piece of furniture, yet it has now become one of the standards for European outdoor cafes.

The Pensi round table was designed to go along with his Toledo Stacking Chair. It’s manufactured in Spain by Amat-3 for Kroll in full compliance with Pensi’s specifications. The table measures 28.25 inches high and its stainless steel table top has a diameter of23 inches. The table top features a sanded disc pattern, though a metallic laminate one that is resistant to ultraviolet rays is also available. It’s perfect for establishments that need commercial bistro tables for outdoor use.

La Cordoba bar and restaurant table series

9th November 2007

La Cordoba…the name is reminiscent of Spain, isn’t it? Or at least something warm and Mediterranean. The tables in the La Cordoba furniture set don’t evoke any Spanish images - you won’t be seeing any bullfights there, maybe the closest thing you’ll see to anything bovine there is if you’re served a hearty dish of beef tapas. In fact, the way the base of the tables hook out remind me of the grappling devices that ninjas in Japan are said to use. In any case, these tables look attractive and would be an asset to bars and restaurants. Let’s take a sneak peek at the items in the La Cordoba series: La Cordoba 2, La Cordoba 3, La Cordoba 4, and La Cordoba Alta 4.

Four rectangular table top sizes are available for the La Cordoba 2 model: 100 x 60 centimeters, 110 x 70 centimeters, 120 x 80 centimeters, and 1208 x 80 centimeters. For the Cordoba 3 model, which measures 70 centimeters high, a round table top measuring 70 centimeters in diameter is standard.
